PHRYGIA. Temenothyrae. Pseudo-autonomous issue. Assarion (Bronze, 21 mm, 4.60 g, 7 h), Titianos, archiereus. Time of Valerian I and Gallienus, 253-260. KTICTHC THMЄNOC Laureate and draped bust of the eponymous founder Temenos to right. Rev. TITIANOC THMЄNOΘYPЄICI Hermes standing front, head to left, holding purse in his right hand and kerykeion in his left. BMC 18-19 (same dies). SNG München 484 (same dies). SNG von Aulock -. Very rare. This interesting pseudo-autonomous issue shows the eponymous founder Temenos on the obverse, after whom it was believed the city was named.
